Chapter 2
God will not force His truth on anyone that doesn't want it. But He makes it clear in this chapter that Wisdom is a treasure worth searching for. Not only that, but if you search, you are guaranteed to find it. God wants us to seek wisdom and He is eager to give us knowledge and understanding when we make the effort to learn of Him.
You can gain much knowledge on your own. Personally, I have a huge appetite for knowledge. I read lots of books, blogs, etc. on a wide variety of topics. And that's all well and good. It leads to a richer life because it opens me up to enjoy more experiences. But if I do all that and never crack open my Bible, all that knowledge will profit me nothing, because true wisdom comes only from God. There is nothing higher.
So in all your getting, get wisdom. Then guard it as if your life depends on it.
Proverbs 2:4-11 ~
Search for wisdom
as you would search for silver
or hidden treasure.
Then you will understand
what it means to respect
and to know the LORD God.
All wisdom comes from the LORD,
and so do common sense
and understanding.
God gives helpful advice to everyone who obeys him
and protects all of those
who live as they should.
God sees that justice is done,
and he watches over everyone
who is faithful to him.
With wisdom you will learn
what is right
and honest and fair.
Wisdom will control your mind,
and you will be pleased
with knowledge.
Sound judgment and good sense
will watch over you.
