Proverbs 13:12 ~
Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick,
but a sudden good break can turn life around.
(The Message)
There's nothing that tries faith more than unrelenting disappointment. We think we have faith to believe for anything but it's just Christian lingo until we actually have to walk through some things that test our claims. It's a lot easier to talk the talk but living it out is a whole other ballgame.
I have experienced some heartsick times throughout my life. I've heard some horrific stories of others that would make my life look like a walk in the park. But the reality for me is, I'm walking this life. This is my journey. My faith testers may be different than others, but they are mine and just as challenging to work through. That's why we need to stay away from the comparison trap. It impedes our progress to wholeness.
Sometimes I feel my life is an unrelenting state of transition. Always seeming like victory is just out of my reach. It often seems just when I'm getting close, the target is yanked further away. I don't understand why this is, or what I'm missing, but it's maddening at times.
Yet in spite of all the disappointments, setbacks, and roadblocks, I continue to press forward, because I know Jeremiah 29:11 and the God who spoke those words: For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (NLT)
Yes, I really do believe this and it is the very thing that keeps me getting back up every day and trying again. It's the drive that causes me to push back against the resistance my enemy puts before me. One day I know I will finally break through, and like childbirth, the pain will be a forgotten memory.
This proverb may begin with a sad statement, but never overlook the "rest of the story" - You were meant for comeback. Be faithful when all hope seems lost, and at your appointed time, you will see the reward that will turn it all around.
