Proverbs 14:30 ~
A sound mind makes for a robust body,
but runaway emotions corrode the bones.
(The Message)
It is so true that the mind is the battlefield. There is a vicious cycle that occurs when you can't get your mind thinking straight. It can be like a runaway train when you start thinking negative thoughts. Your thoughts become words that have power to create.
I know when I'm feeling particularly run-down, I sometimes let my guard down on what I let come out of my mouth. I start focusing on how I feel and instead of building myself up, I start talking about how I feel. Then I start feeling worse!
How do you keep a sound mind? By immersing yourself in the scriptures. They are life and medicine to your bones. Renew your mind in the Word and use it to push back against the infirmity trying to press you down. I also find it encouraging to seek out stories of other overcomers. Seeing how someone worse off than me was able to overcome a huge obstacle to do things I can't yet do, really inspires me to push harder. They came from a worse place and were able to go farther. If they can, so can I!
Instead of rehearsing to yourself how bad you feel, get angry. Yes, get angry! Anger releases hormones in your body that prompt you to action. Get angry with this thing trying to hold you down. Rise up and fight back!
It's not a miracle solution that brings results instantly every time. But, if you are determined, you CAN overcome any obstacle put before you. The word "overcome" indicates a fight to win, so no one promises it will come easy. It will come with struggle and setbacks. Sometimes you'll move forward and then slip backward. The important thing is that you collect yourself and get back up and give it another swing!
Don't let your mind fool you. Take authority and let your flesh know it is subordinate to your spirit! Not the other way around!
