Feeling Good About Yourself

Feeling down? Depressed? Blah?

You don't have to stay that way! Just because you may be going through the most trying time of your life, it doesn't mean you have to look like it! In fact, if you go around looking all down and depressed, guess what? You will keep on feeling that way, too.

Some days I just don't feel like getting out of my pajamas or putting any makeup on. But if I don't, I just end up feeling yucky all day long. It does nothing to make you feel better, but just makes you feel worse, especially if you happen to catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror, or worse -- someone stops by unannounced!!

My mother taught me that no matter what, put on some lipstick and make sure your toes are always painted. Not only because it makes you look like you care about how you look, but it makes you feel good too.  That is a rule I've always remembered. I am not much of a lipstick wearer, so she gently reminds me about that one from time to time, but I have always been a stickler about having those toes painted!

On those days when I have a lot of things on my mind, or just want to wallow in my feelings, and want to skip the makeup and throw on some comfy (but ugly) clothes... I hear Mom's voice in my head gently saying, "just a little lipstick... put on some jewelry... wear something cute..." When I listen and put some effort into looking good, I smile because I begin to feel pretty. It does something to my spirits and the clouds begin to clear out.

Our attitude determines how we will choose to look at life. It determines whether the things we face in life are disasters or adventures to be experienced. Not everything that comes along in our lives is a happy experience, but I guarantee you they are learning opportunities.

And when the physical makeover isn't quite enough, I pull out my Word and meditate on all the verses in the Bible that remind me how precious I am to my Father. I am a princess. I am His beloved. I am priceless to Him.

Just read the Song of Solomon and see if you don't feel the love!

I feel pretty... oh, so pretty...

  1. LOL: It was so great to read this post today. You never cease
to amaze me. Sometimes we, as parents, never know if our little
tidbits of suggestions ever sink in, but, you certainly listened.
I learned from my precious mother and she set a great example.
Continue to keep those toenails painted...I still do. LOL
Loved the ending as I can see you swirling around the room singing,I feel pretty...oh, so pretty. Almost as good as the turkey song you sang as a little girl. haha...love you lots, Mom
